Level Up your PR game, it’s 2018!
And here we are just past the end of yet another eventful year- and goodness me- 2017 has zoomed away or what?! As the trend goes at this time of the new year, lots and lots of resolutions are being made. The same goes for our PR resolutions! Indulge yourself in Janus-like introspective exercises to review mistakes and, of course, a long list of what to do in the year ahead!
Take Chances or You Can’t Win
From health, education, profession, bucket-lists to vacation itineraries: almost everything seems to be getting a refreshing update, as the New Year dawns. Though a dozen resolutions are flouted for a dime, it helps to know that your chances of living up to them are higher when you make them rather than not pledging any at all. You can’t win the rollerball lottery without buying tickets.
When the globalized world yonder is gearing up for a brand New Year, we, PR- practitioners need to brace ourselves, too. After all, the media and marketplace landscape continue to evolve so we better be upping our game for the whole caboodle!
How to Level Up your PR Act
Master Communication: I know we already are expected to be master communicators. But, seriously speaking, just how many times have we overlooked our messages? How about drafted a reply to an editor with a deluge of emotions on our minds? Being a PR pro is not easy given the number of tasks we got to juggle, media deadlines to chase and client expectations to meet. We need to prioritize our communique. Take time out to respond to each and every message and email. Make phone call properly and promptly. Concentrate on the message to cut down on mistakes and maintain crystal transparency.
Innovate, create and present: Let us not limit ourselves to client briefs. Rise above the notion that we are here just to deliver others’ messages. Become an expert at creating gripping stories out of key deliverables. Let us make our client’s PR journey a fascinating one. Create an intriguing presentation of messages even to the most boring market research, stats and facts.
Prepare to finish early: Agreed we are forever hard-pressed for time but aren’t we also guilty of waiting until the last minute or moving deadlines? Well, now you don’t have to be. Let time management and efficient planning takes the lead. It’s best to start off by setting reasonable deadlines and then sticking by it. Strive to finish early but never deliver a half-baked product just to keep up with a timeline.
Differentiate Yourself, Build relationships
Stay on top of your game: Never miss out on any of the latest techno-innovations, PR tools, SEO terms or industry trends when you want to portray yourself as a master of the drill. Keep on learning and stay on top of your game. Know more about the latest app, social media trend and of course media movements.
Be seen: Out of sight, out of mind! Yes, that’s how it works in the world of communications. PR is more than just content creation, follow-ups and emails. Connect with the media and reach out to your clients or, it isn’t worth the deal. PR has evolved to become more of a people’s community than just communication platforms. With the rise in Influencer culture and social media campaigns, demand for building relationships that go beyond the realms of professional ties has substantially increased too. So, catalyze your visual appeal to distinguish your work from the rest. Make your presentations, websites and printed communique more colorful and engaging.
Every New Year always brings challenges as well as opportunities. Go ahead, take up these resolutions, clean your game and achieve your goals.
